Calabasas is a small city in LA county just east of Agoura Hills along the Ventura Freeway. It’s home to about 24,000 residents and was formally incorporated in 1991. It consists of affluent homeowners in several gated communities. Within Calabasas, there are several smaller neighborhoods, communities, and subdivisions such as Vista Pointe, Parkway Calabasas, Hidden Hills West and about a dozen or two more.

The City

The city’s Civic Center and library complex is a Gold LEED-certified structure completed in 2008. This to building complex is constructed “green” and cost about $45 million to complete. It consists of meeting rooms, and amphitheater, the library and the Calabasas Channel.

Residents have access to public transportation in the form of shuttle and trolley services, something unique about Calabasas. There is the Los Angeles County Metropolitan transportation line 161 which runs the Calabasas tennis and swing center and has a protected and maintain historical district called “Old Town Calabasas”.

Local Calabasas

Calabasas is home to a variety of festivals and activities throughout the year including the Pumpkin Festival, the Fine Arts Festival, a spectacular Fourth of July event and Easter’s Eggstravaganza. Calabasas is also the home to Brandon’s village, a playground located at Gates Canyon Park serving over 5000 special needs children from surrounding communities. This one acre playground equipment offers independently playable equipment by children with disabilities and provide meaningful and stimulating play opportunities for all kids.

Again, Calabasas is full of gated communities and high-end luxury homes and estates. The median list price is $1.8 million with a median sales price at $1.09 million. The average number of homes sold each month is roughly 30 to 45 properties. Homes range anywhere from $400,000 to over $5 million spread out primarily south of the Ventura Freeway. There is a small community north of Ventura Freeway around the Gates Canyon Park.

Surrounding communities of Woodland Hills, Hidden Hills and Agoura Hills offer many varieties of shops and restaurants, markets, schools, parks and more.
